Mourning Dove

Mourning doves are slender doves with narrow wings, a long, pointed tail, small head and relatively short bill. They are mostly drab with a blue eye ring, black spots near the wingtips, and pink feet.

Their name describes their sad, almost owl-like call.

They are abundant in brushy, open habitats and suburban areas throughout most of the U.S.
