Rock doves, more commonly known as "pigeons," are small but relatively stocky birds with short necks and tails. Adults show wide variation in appearance (e.g. dark, checkered, pied, brown), but the natural form has a gray body with two black bars on the wings.
Rock doves are common and widespread throughout the U.S., especially in urban areas.
