House finches have relatively short bills with a curved culmen, streaked brown body, short wings and long tail. Adult males have a reddish (sometimes orange or yellow) forehead and breast which females lack.
House finches are abundant in semiarid habitats and suburbs throughout the U.S. and Mexico.
