Lesser Goldfinch

Lesser goldfinches are the smallest goldfinch. They have yellow throats and undersides, black wings with white primaries, short tail, and dark bill. Adult males also have a black cap.

There are two populations of lesser goldfinches: Texas (black back) and Western (olive back).

Lesser goldfinches are common in dry, brushy fields and at the edges of woodlands in the western U.S. and Mexico.
