Western Grebe

Western grebes are relatively large, slender goose-like birds with a long neck and thin bill. They have a dark gray crown and back contrasting a white front and underside.

This bird is very similar in appearance to Clark's grebe. The best distinguishing characteristic is bill color: dull yellow-green in Western grebe and bright yellow-orange in Clark's grebe.

Western grebes are found in marshy ponds and coastal areas of the Western U.S.
