Sandhill Crane

Sandhill cranes are tall birds with a red crown, long necks and legs, and tertial feathers that hang over their rumps like skirts. Winter adults are mostly gray, while summer adults have rusty plumage.

They are often found in large flocks in open fields or meadows during the day in the winter, and return to water at night and during breeding season.
