The Caspian tern is a large crested tern with broad wings and a short tail. The adult has a dark red bill with a dusky tip. During breeding it has a black cap which is streaked with white at other times.
Caspian terns are primarily found along the coast of southern California, Gulf of Mexico, and Baja Mexico.
