The Western gull is a relatively heavy white-headed gull. Although its appearance is similar to its other white-headed relatives (see Ring-billed and California), it is distinguished by broad tertials that droop to form a "skirt." Its legs are pink, and the iris can vary from pale to dark.
As its name suggests, the Western gull is found primarily in coastal areas of the Western U.S.
