Anna's hummingbird is a relatively large hummingbird with a short, straight bill. Adult males have an iridescent rose red throat and crown which is only partial in immatures and absent in juveniles.
Anna's hummingbird is abundant in coastal and mountain areas of the western U.S., and some southwestern deserts during the winter.
