Yellow-billed magpies are relatively large jay-like birds with a black head contrasting a white belly and white scapulars on the wings. They have a very long, iridescent blue-green tail.
With the exception of its yellow bill (as its name suggests), its appearance is very similar to the black-billed magpie.
Yellow-billed magpies are common in grasslands and foothills of northern central California.
