Sandhill Crane

Sandhill cranes are tall birds with long necks and legs, and their tertial feathers hang over their rumps like skirts. Adults are mostly gray with a red crown.

They are often found in large flocks in open fields or meadows during the day in the winter, and return to water at night and during breeding season.
