Burrowing Owl

Burrowing owls are small, ground-dwelling owls with relatively long legs and a flat head. Adults have brown plumage mottled with white, while fledglings have a solid buffy chest and underside.

There are two geographic variants (Western and Florida) with slightly different plumage markings. Both inhabit open grassland and some urban areas in the U.S.
