Swainson's Hawk

Swainson's hawk is a slender buteo with a relatively long tail and long, pointed wings. Adults have a white face and throat contrasting a solid dark head and back. The front and underside plumage varies from light (common) to dark (uncommon). In light adults, a rufous bib is also readily visible.

Swainson's hawk is found in open plains in the western U.S.
