Black Turnstone

Black turnstones are small shorebirds with dark upperparts contrasting white underparts, and dark orange or brown legs. Breeding adults have a white eyebrow and lore spot, which are very faint in nonbreeding adults and juveniles.

Their name describes both their color and foraging behavior of flipping stones over.

Black turnstones are found on rocky western shores from Alaska to Baja Mexico.
