Lesser Yellowlegs

Lesser yellowlegs is a slender shorebird. As its name suggests, it has strikingly yellow legs.

This bird is very similar in appearance to the greater yellowlegs. The prefix of "lesser" indicates that its bill is relatively short, when compared to the greater yellowlegs. View comparison.

It is found in shallow wetland habitats. It winters along the coasts of the U.S. and in Mexico, and breeds in northern Canada and Alaska.
