Great blue herons are the largest herons, standing 4 ft (1.2 m) tall with 6 ft (1.8 m) wingspans.
There are two variants or "morphs," dark and white. Dark morphs have bluish-gray plumage and are common near bodies of water throughout most of the U.S. In contrast, white morphs have completely white plumage and live only in southern Florida.
