Little blue herons are small bluish-gray herons with two-toned gray bills and dull green legs and feet. During breeding, the head and neck become dark purple and the legs and feet black. Juveniles have completely white plumage (and can be easily confused with the snowy egret).
Little blue herons are common near shallow water in the southeastern U.S. and casual along the coast of the western and northeastern U.S.
