White-faced ibises are wading birds with long legs, a down-curved bill, and red eyes. Despite its name, its plumage is mostly dark chestnut and, in bright light, its wings have a green/purple iridescence. Breeding adults do have a white border around the face.
White-faced ibises are found in freshwater marshes and flooded fields in central to western U.S.
