Bufflehead

Bufflehead are the smallest ducks. They are generally drab with a distinctive white patch on each side of the head. During breeding, the male has a white body contrasting a dark back and an iridescent L-shaped area on the head.

Bufflehead are common in lakes and ponds near wooded areas throughout most of the U.S. and Canada.
