Red-breasted Merganser

Red-breasted mergansers are long-bodied ducks with a thin orange-red bill and shaggy, double crests that give these birds an uncombed appearance. Both males and females look similar, except during breeding when the male becomes more colorful and has a dark red breast.

Red-breasted mergansers are common in sheltered coastal areas of the U.S. and throughout northern and eastern Canada.
