Redheads are diving ducks with round heads and tricolored bills. As their name suggests, breeding males have bright red heads which dull during the nonbreeding season. Females, in contrast, are mostly drab.

Redheads are found in marshes, ponds, and lakes, more commonly in the western U.S.
