Ruddy Duck

Ruddy ducks are relatively small diving ducks. They have dark caps on their heads, white cheeks, and stiff tails which they use as a rudder. Breeding males have ruddy plumage below the neck, as their name suggests, as well as a blue bill.

Ruddy ducks are common in ponds, bays and marshes throughout the western and southern U.S., midwestern Canada, and northern Mexico.
